Chapter 4 Current Problems and Strategies in Motor Rehabilitation for Parkinson’s Disease Giovanni Abbruzzese, Elisa Pelosin, and Roberta Marchese Introduction Idiopathic Parkinson’s disease (PD) can be defined pathologically by the loss of dopaminergic neurons in the pars compacta of the substantia nigra (with the presence of intracytoplasmic neuronal inclusions, the Lewy bodies) and clinically by some combination of rest tremor, rigidity, bradykinesia, and loss of postural reflexes .
Gene expression profiles of hippocampus from wild-type and Msh2þ/À mice were compared, and only genes with at least a twofold change in expression levels were considered as upor down-regulated. Data analysis revealed about 110 up- or down-regulated genes in the hippocampus of heterozygous mice, including genes involved in various biochemical and cellular functions (Fig. 1). Most of them are ‘‘unknown function’’ genes. Msh2þ/À mice had reduced expression levels in genes encoding for transcriptional and splicing factors, DNA-binding protein, and genes involved in protein synthesis, modification, and transport.
